New Deal On Fuel Efficiency

On Friday, Congressional Democrats reached a compromise regarding automobile fuel efficiency. The compromise will increase fuel efficiency by about 40%. Automakers will be required to produce all of their cars and light trucks to obtain 35 mpg including SUV's by 2020. The could lead to greater strides in fuel efficiency including an increased use of ethanol as fuel. With gas prcies climbing as high as they have been recently, I'm glad to see that cars will be becoming a little more efficient when it comes to fuel.

I really hope it doesn't take until 2020 to do something about the prices though.

well maybe they should forget about oil and reintroduce all of those electric cars they had in the late 80's and the early 90's. gm made the EV1 and it went 120mph for 130+- miles on a full charge. too bad the al gore and clinton teamed up against them with the oil companies in a law suit and they eventually destroyed them. 35 mph by 2020 is ridiculous, look at other country's mph standards... there should be a government mandate to have all electric cars by then (like there were when cars were first invented). plus, electric cars are faster.
